Dance for Communities

Full Cast from Spring Show 24 Waving During the Finale

Citymoves is committed to promoting dance's physical, mental, and social benefits within our communities. To this end, we offer classes, in-school lessons, library and community centre sessions, and organisational partnerships.

Our Community work creates opportunities for audiences to explore the art of dance and develops dance projects that respond to local needs and national priorities. Citymoves collaborates with partners Locally, Nationally, and Internationally to share the joy of dance; if you would like to learn more or suggest a programme, please contact us!

Our Core Community Projects include our performance groups, Strive Community Centre Classes, and Programmes for Individuals with Additional Support Needs; continue scrolling to learn more about each of these programmes.

Performance Groups

Citymoves runs and operates multiple performance groups through each term, with every group participating in public performances through the year - events include DanceLive, SPECTRA, The Highland Show, Light the Blue and more.

Strive Community Groups

Strive works in community centres around Aberdeen to provide creative activity and positive destinations, using dance as an alternative form of engagement, for young people aged 10-24.

Through dance, transferable skills will be developed such as teamwork, communication, coordination, problem solving, creativity, leadership, awareness of physical health and fitness, decision making and positive behaviour. By providing a safe and supportive environment, participants creativity will be nurtured and self-expression will be encouraged, increasing self-esteem and confidence.

Citymoves are always looking to offer classes within Aberdeen’s central locality zone. Please get in touch if there are young people you work who would be interested with or have a venue that would benefit from this opportunity.
